"I first came across the name Luigi Mengoni in the German periodical Der Leichtathletik in an issue dated 31 January 1957, where the top performances for all events in all countries first saw the light of day. Soon after, I purchased his Athletics classic, World and National Leaders in Track & Field Athletics, the third revision, 1924 - 1960. I later purchased all versions including his last, which included data for the period 1860 - 1972. This book was my first and favorite statistical work of Athletics, along with Maurice Loesch's 1922 International Athletics Annual, which now includes well over 400 volumes and led to the publication of my own book of statistics, Post War Athletics: 1946 - 1970. Thank you Ottavio for posting this fine article about this great man with a passion for athletics".

"Hi Ottavio. Briefly, I started off professionally as a biologist, earned a living in Real Estate, was able to retire early which now affords me the opportunity to write for pleasure. I've published one book: Post War Athletics: A Statistical History - 1946 through 1970, and am currently writing a book of historical fiction about Hernan Cortez as well as completing a survey of middle and long distance athletics (top 10 lists for all events from 800m through 10,000m for all countries from 1946 though 1983). I ran the 880y, Mile and 2Mile in high school and it was there that I developed a passion for athletics. In the late 1970's I regularly attended indoor track meets from Los Angeles to San Diego where I had the privilege of watching many of the greats from that era including Henry Rono, Suleiman Nyambui, Eamonn Coghlan among many others. I started seriously collecting athletic statistics and compiling my own lists around 1978, the same year I acquired my first copy of Luigi Mengoni's book. I was born in 1960 and have lived in the state of California for my entire life, beginning in Northern California and now reside in Southern California in the town of Orange. Besides hunting down obscure athletics statistics, I am the "stay at home dad" of 12 year old twins, give private ukulele and guitar lessons, and write movie reviews for a local publication".
